Summer in Australia is the time of year where we spend the most time outdoors.
AS skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Australia; It is so important that we ensure that we are SunSmart & use all od the five SunSmart steps:
1.Slip on covering clothing
Make sure you choose clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Such as collared shirts with long sleeves.
2. Slow on SPF 50 or SPF50+, broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen.
Apply a large amount of sunscreen to clean, dry skin – at least 20 minutes before going outside.
3. Slap on a hat
Choose a wide-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket style hat which shades your face, nose, neck & ears. These can be common sites for skin cancers.
4. Seek shade
Trees, build sun shelters or bring your own sun shelter. Remember – Shade reduces UV radiation but can see get you via reflection; so always use shade along with other shade protective measures.
5. Slide on some sunglasses
The combination & a broad-brimmed hat reduces UV radiation exposure to the eyes by up to 98%. Wear sunglasses outdoors during daylight hours.

Know your skin
Check your skin often to new spots or changes in shape, colour or size of existing spots.
If you notice any changes, please ensure that you see your doctor as soon as possible. Most skin cancer can be successfully treated if it is found early.
