Wound Management
What is a wound?
Wounds are injuries that break the skin or bother tissues in the body.
They can be:
- Accidental: Such as burns, grazes, paper cuts & skin tears
- After surgery
- Related to underlying diseases i.e. Diabetes
- Resulting from skin conditions i.e Eczema or psoriasis
Small wounds are not serious, but it is always important to keep them clean.
Wounds that happen suddenly and heal quickly are known as ‘acute’ wounds.
Chronic wounds are those that heal slowly, not at all, or keep reappearing. It is extremely important to keep them clean and dressings to be managed and changed regularly.
Not to worry, chronic wounds can heal with the correct diagnosis and treatment by your nurse and GP at McKinley.
